Council Hikes Fee By Over 70 Percent

The Board of Directors (BOD) of the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce (FCC) is deciding what – if any – action to take after Hamilton Council approved a fee increase of over 70 percent (from $5,930 to $10,275) for a ‘routine zoning application.’

After the matter was brought to the attention of the BOD, FCC staff consulted with the city to determine a reason for the hike. The increase was proposed by city staff to make applications ‘revenue neutral’ (all costs – including staff time – be the responsibility of the applicant with no support by taxpayers). The increase puts the Hamilton fees more in line with neighbouring (and competing) municipalities.

The FCC BOD is concerned the increase will negatively impact commercial and industrial investment, thereby impacting local economic development and job creation. The matter will be on the agenda when the BOD meets next in early June. Stay tuned!!
