THE FCC AT CITY HALL
Reflecting its growing influence, Hamilton Council has invited the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce (FCC) – as ‘The Voice of Business in Flamborough – to appoint representatives to both its Government Relations Committee and the Open For Business Committee.
The FCC particularly thanks Ward 15 (East Flamborough) Councillor Just Partridge for her role in helping make this happen.
The Open For Business Committee will advise Council and city staff on ways to make Hamilton more attractive for commercial and industrial development. In light of Hamilton’s fiscal challenges, this matter is of crucial importance as it provides – in addition to new employment opportunities – increased commercial and industrial property taxes to relieve the burden on the residential taxpayer.
Formally called the Fairness For Hamilton Committee, the Government Relations Committee is determined to get Hamilton’s fair share when it comes to provincial and federal revenues. The newly-constituted committee met for the first time this week with FCC Executive Director Arend Kersten present.
In light of some of the challenges facing current and future Flamborough businesses (especially when it comes to zoning and ‘red tape’ matters), the appointments are particularly timely.
