LANDSCAPERS WIN
It survived a last minute scare, but at last night’s Council meeting, the motion to exempt rural landscapers from the new Rural Zoning Bylaw was passed. Only Councillor Brenda Johnson (Glanbrook) was opposed. A special ‘Shout Out’ to Flamborough Councillors Judi Partridge and Robert Pasuta for their ‘behind the scenes’ efforts that resulted in the exemption. The ‘bottom line’ is that some 150+ rural landscapers will now have the opportunity to remain at their current locations.
However – as we told you earlier – landscapers who seek the exemption need to be pro-active. Specifically, please note the following:
-It applies only to rural landscapers in Flamborough and Ancaster who had an established and existing rural landscaping business as of March 31, 2015.
-These landscapers MUST inform the city by May 15 of the address or property description of their business to be considered for the exemption.
In another encouraging development, Councillor Pasuta put forward a ‘Notice of Motion’ (which will be considered at a future meeting) that would allow properties currently zoned ‘industrial’ and located in rural Flamborough and rural Ancaster to retain the number of permitted uses they have now. The city’s Planning Department is suggesting that some current permitted uses should not be allowed under the new rules.
The Flamborough Chamber of Commerce (FCC) will continue to monitor developments closely and speak as ‘The Voice of Business’ in Flamborough when necessary.
