In Memoriam: Arend Kersten
The Flamborough Chamber of Commerce is deeply saddened to announce
the passing of Arend Kersten, a cherished former Executive Director (2003-2018) who left an
indelible mark on our community. Arend passed away on August 17, 2024.
Arend’s tenure as Executive Director was characterized by his profound dedication to the
Flamborough business community. His visionary leadership and tireless commitment were
instrumental in fostering a thriving environment for local entrepreneurs and businesses. Under his
stewardship, the Chamber saw remarkable growth and innovation, most notably with the evolution
of the annual “Flamborough Outstanding Business Awards” into a high-profile gala evening,
celebrating the achievements and contributions of local businesses.
Arend’s legacy is also reflected in the various community outreach programs he championed,
which continue to provide valuable resources and networking opportunities for business
professionals in the area. His impact extended beyond the Chamber, as he was a passionate
advocate for the entire Flamborough community.
Before joining the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce, Arend had a distinguished career in
media as a reporter and then Editor of the former Flambrough Review. His leadership qualities and
dedication to his work were evident in all his professional endeavors.
“Arend is remembered with great respect and affection by his colleagues, friends, and the many
individuals he mentored and inspired throughout his career,” said Matteo Patricelli, the current
Executive Director of the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce. “His contributions have left a
lasting legacy that will continue to benefit the Flamborough community for years to come.”
The Flamborough Chamber of Commerce extends its deepest condolences to Arend’s family and
loved ones during this difficult time. His passing is a significant loss to our community, and he will
be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.
