CASINO MEETING POSTPONED
The proposed public meeting to discuss the issue of a casino in Flamborough tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday, November 20 at Waterdown District High School (WDHS) has been postponed to an undetermined date early in 2013.
Under a massive province-wide restructuring of OLG, municipalities have the right to determine whether gaming facilities (usually expanded from just slot machines to include gaming tables) are welcome within their borders. Currently, the only legitimate gaming in the ‘new’ Hamilton is restricted to 801 slot machines located at Flamboro Downs. The original deadline for a municipal ‘hosting’ decision was December 31. However – at the request of Mayor Bob Bratina – the OLG has extended the deadline until March 1, 2013. That has led Council to postpone the two proposed public meetings (one in Hamilton and the other in Flamborough) until early in 2013.
