Another Big Win
The commission charged with reviewing the boundaries for federal electoral ridings tabled its final recommendations last week. Their report recommends that a new, mostly-rural riding that wraps around the city of Hamilton from Waterdown to Winona be named Flamborough-Glanbrook.
The proposed name for the new riding was initially Waterdown-Glanbrook. Noting that Waterdown is but one ‘settlement area’ (out of 16) in the former Town of Flamborough, Executive Director Arend Kersten was directed by the FCC Board of Directors (BOD) to make a presentation to the commission, suggesting that the name ‘Flamborough-Glanbrook’ would be more appropriate. The final report reflects the FCC’s submission.
This is an important ‘win’ for not only the FCC but for all of Flamborough. It maintains the name and identity of Flamborough at the federal level. Furthermore, provincial riding boundaries are normally adjusted to match the federal boundaries.
