As part of its commitment to be the credible and effective ‘Voice of Business’ in Flamborough, we’ll give you some insight into the day-to-day activities of the FCC.

In addition to consideration of the increase in municipal application fees (see above), the BOD – when it met last week Tuesday – also examined the proposed 2013-2014 FCC Budget. Preliminary results indicate the FCC ended the fiscal year (April 30) with a small surplus. The proposed Budget will again be on the agenda at the June meeting.

The Friday before the meeting of the BOD, FCC Executive Director Arend Kersten attended an overview of the newly-released provincial Budgetpresented by Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale MPP – and Minister of Community and Social Services – Ted McMeekin at the Hamilton Art Gallery. During the question and answer session, Arend ask MPP Ted whether the Budget had any provisions to address the crisis facing Ontario’s horse racing industry. Earlier this week, Premier – and Minister of Agriculture and Food – Kathleen Wynne made an announcement designed to assist the province’s horse racing industry. Last Thursday evening, Arend and his wife Dianne were guests of the Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce as it presented its annualOutstanding Business Achievement Awards. For a picture taken at the gala, please click HERE.

Last Saturday, Arend and Dianne – like so many others in the community – had their car washed at Waterdown Collision in support of Dante’s Puddle Jumpers. Total receipts were up from last year, with proceeds going to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis. This year’s car wash raised over $7,000 – up from $5,200 last year. This past Monday, the organizing committee of the 2013 Flamborough Open (co-sponsored by the FCC and the Rotary Club of Waterdown) met. Later in the day, Arend and Rotarian Nick Brown visited with Rob Murray of the Carlisle Golf & Country Club to finalize details for the May 29 tournament. On Monday evening, Arend and Dianne were guests of the Rotary Club of Waterdown as it presented its prestigious Paul Harris Awards to a number of community champions at the Hidden Lakes Golf & Country Club.
